honored in new exhibit at the
Virginia Center for Architecture

Two buildings in Capitol Square, Old
City Hall and the Virginia State Capitol, are
featured in the exhibit
Virginia’s Favorite
Architecture
, currently on display at the
Virginia Center for Architecture (VCA).
The exhibit showcases the results of
a public survey conducted by the VCA
and the Virginia Society of the American
Institute of Architects.
The survey collected nearly 30,000
votes fromVirginians and the top 100 works
are displayed at the exhibit in order of their popularity.
The Virginia State Capitol, designed in 1792 by Thomas
Jefferson, is ranked 14th in the exhibit.
Six of Jefferson’s pieces of architecture are featured in the
exhibit including, Monticello, the Academical Village at University
of Virginia, Poplar Forest, the Rotunda and Baboursville.
Old City Hall, designed by Elijah E. Meyers in 1894, is ranked
32nd in the exhibit.
Virginia’s Favorite Architecture
is part of a yearlong celebration
of the 100th anniversary of the American Institute of Architects in
Virginia.
The exhibit will be on display at the VCA, located in the Branch
House on Monument Avenue in Richmond, until October 10.
On May 2, 2014 Charles C. Singleton received the “Lifetime
Achievement Award” from the National Fire Service Council.
Charlie was selected from a group of nominees from all across the
United States.
